Well-being is an active process of awareness and decision-making for a healthy and fulfilling life. It is more than disease-free; it is a dynamic process of change and growth. A good or satisfactory state of existence; is a state marked by health, happiness, and prosperity; wellness.
“Wellness is a state of the whole physical, mental, and social comfort, and not merely the absence of disease or infirmity.” – World Health Organization.
According to several studies, depression is the most common health problem in the world. This problem usually establishes itself as insomnia, stress, poor diet, sedentary lifestyle, obesity, heart disease, etc.
Regardless of a person’s age, size, shape, or perceived attractiveness, wellness is the cornerstone of quality of life. Ultimately, it determines how we look, feel, interact with others, and thrive in life and work.
Well-being is the conscious growth of the whole being. Boarding on a wellness journey is a process of finding the right “tools” to make you healthier and happier and discovering practical ways to use those “tools” for continued growth and development. Because there is great diversity in all walks of life, there are countless opportunities to cultivate an ever-changing path of wellness.
It is important to see that all the different concepts of well-being must contain at least the following principles:
Holistic: Your health and well-being result from the constant interaction between the various natural dimensions of life and well-being. Each size link to the others. The goal is to become aware of yourself as a whole and complete person and live life as entirely as possible.
Balance: Although you recognize the ever-changing nature of your life, try to balance it by paying close attention to each of the dimensions. Lack of sufficient attention to one extent leads to suboptimal development as a person and can potentially lead to chronic unhappiness.
Self-responsibility: A healthy person accepts responsibility for their health and happiness and does not allow others to take control of the decisions they must make for themselves. Self-responsibility requires self-awareness, including becoming increasingly aware of the causes and consequences of one’s behavior.
Positive and proactive: well-being requires, above all, positive perspectives and values to live. It also requires a vital intelligence of purpose and deliberate, considered action. These are our initial assumptions, which have stood the test of time. However, they only provide a simple framework; what you put in that frame is entirely up to you.
